Dishwasher Installation Requirements

Requirements Overview: 

• Space: Dishwashers require a standard opening between cabinets with accessible water, drain, and electrical connections. 

• Clearances: Ensure the unit fits under countertops with enough room for door swing. 

Detailed Requirements: 

• Width: Standard dishwashers are typically 24 inches wide. 

• Height: Ensure at least 34-36 inches in height from the floor to the underside of the countertop. 

• Depth: Standard dishwashers are around 24 inches deep. 

Water Supply: 

• Hot Water Line: Must be a 3/8-inch hot water line within 6 feet of the dishwasher. 

• Shut-Off Valve: Ensure the shut-off valve is easily accessible. 

Drain Requirements: 

• Drain Hose: The drain must connect to a 1-1/2-inch diameter sink drainpipe or a garbage disposal unit. 

Electrical Requirements: 

• Power Source: Requires a dedicated 120V electrical outlet, typically on a 15-amp circuit. 

• Hardwired or Plug-In: Most dishwashers are either hardwired or use a standard plug, depending on local code. 

Clearances: 

• Sides: 1/8 inch of clearance between the dishwasher and adjacent cabinets. 

• Back: 2 inches of clearance for water and drain lines.
