Laundry Machine Installation Requirements

Requirements Overview:

• Type: Different installation needs apply for front-load vs. top-load washers, and for electric vs. gas dryers.

Washer Requirements:

• Width: Standard washers are 27 inches wide.
• Height: Front-load washers are typically around 38-40 inches tall.
• Depth: Ensure 32-34 inches of depth to accommodate the washer.

Water Supply:

• Hot and Cold Lines: 3/4-inch hoses for hot and cold water, within 3 feet of the washer.
• Drain Line: Must be a 1-1/2-inch diameter drainpipe or laundry sink within 6 feet of the washer.

Dryer Requirements:

• Width: Standard dryers are 27 inches wide.
• Depth: 30-32 inches for standard dryers, but ensure enough clearance for vent hoses behind the unit.

Venting (for dryers):

• Venting Duct: Must be a 4-inch diameter rigid or flexible vent duct leading to the outside.
• Clearance: Leave at least 4-6 inches behind the dryer for venting and hoses.

Gas Dryers:

• Gas Line: A natural gas line with a shut-off valve must be within 6 feet of the dryer.

Electrical Requirements:

• Electric Dryer: Requires a 240V outlet on a dedicated 30-amp circuit.
• Gas Dryer: Requires a standard 120V outlet.
