Oven & Range Installation Requirements

Requirements Overview:

• Fuel Type: Determine whether the range/oven is gas or electric, and ensure the appropriate utility is available.
• Clearances: Ensure adequate space for ventilation and safety.
• Power: Confirm electrical outlet capacity (for electric models) or gas line installation (for gas models).

Detailed Requirements:

• Width: Most standard ranges are 30-36 inches wide.
• Height: Measure the height of the oven cavity and the total height of the unit.
• Clearances:
  • Back: 1 inch minimum clearance.
  • Sides: Standard clearance is 1/8 inch.
  • Ventilation Clearance: Overhead space for range hoods or microwave/vent combos should be 24-30 inches from the cooktop surface to the bottom of the ventilation unit.

Gas Ranges:

• Gas Connection: Requires a natural gas line with a shut-off valve within 6 feet of the appliance.
• Gas Hose: A 3/8-inch flexible gas hose approved for ranges.

Electric Ranges:

• Electrical Outlet: Requires a 240V outlet with a 40-50 amp circuit.

Ventilation Requirements (for gas ranges):

• Proper ductwork must be installed for external ventilation, or a recirculating vent if ductwork isn’t available.
