Operation's/Functionality Problems

We purchased this product in 2021. Three years later, in 2024, we started experiencing pops and sizzling noises, sparks on the ON elements, and flickering light. We decided to stop using the cooktop two weeks ago. Now, we are looking to buy another product. Unfortunately, the manufacturer provides a one-year warranty. An electric cooktop should not break down in three years. This is a safety issue that might require immediate attention. That says a lot about the quality of the product. I hope GE can help solve this issue. We would like to hear from the manufacturer about the problems described. It isn't easy to clean the cooktop, regardless of your cleaning agent.

Works well but hard to keep clean

This cooktop replaces an ancient GE cooktop we inherited when buying our new house. The old cooktop had a blue surface which didn't show stains or spots easily. The new glossy black cooktop shows every water spot or stain. Other than appearance, the cooktop works well two months after installation. We did have a problem with installation, as the new cooktop was about 3/4 inch thicker than the old GE cooktop, necessitating some alterations in the drawers beneath the cooktop. Fortunately, there was just barely enough extra space to move the drawers (without interfering with cabinets below them) and fit in the new cooktop.

Upgrade but expected more

Working off countertops for a couple of decades so this was not a journey down a different path, just a bit pricier. The five burners are each distinctive enough, offering the opportunity for a variety of cook levels though the layout might be improved by placing the controls nearer the burner it controls rather than in a center cluster. We have always had knobs on the counter, but the biggest issue I have with this cooktop is that cleaning around the knobs is an adventure. When I'm finished, there's no assurance the range is totally clean. After a lurch or two at the start, we have learned to enjoy the range.

Tried and True, a second time around.

This GE Cooktop replaces our 20-year (GE) one. A Kitchen accident required replacing it. A small glass bottle fell down onto the Cooktop, right at the edge. It took out a minuscule piece, however the damage was done. The cooktop’s glass started to develop spider cuts over a wide area. Having had the old cooktop for 20 years, and obviously liking it, we went and ordered a GE replacement. Of course this new Cooktop is prettier than the old one. Also, the cooking areas are arranged differently. We are very satisfied with the looks of the Cooktop, and of course cooking on it is a lot of fun! Cleaning the Cooktop with Glass Ceramic Cooktop Cleaner, will keep it sparkling clean!

Not worth the price I paid

I was misled by the appliance store I purchased this cooktop from into believing older style coil cooktops are no longer being made. Not true. Some of us prefer basic equipment over shiny new technology. I've had the glass type style of cooktop in a previous house and did not care for it as I was limited in compatible cookware and they're generally a pain to take care of and easy to scratch. After a months long wait for delivery for the GE, I find exactly what I wanted previously at a local home improvement store by a competing manufacturer. I'll be selling the GE and installing the old style cooktop instead. My bad. I should have done better homework prior to wasting my money on a bad purchase.

No, I do not recommend this product.

We like the basic design of the cooktop. It was easy to install and fit in the pre-cut slot where our previous one was removed. The reason I gave the product a 2-star rating is we purchased this same exact model 13 months ago. It was well cared for and kept clean. On 10/26/2019 the large double burner overheated and shattered while I was boiling water for lasagna. ??? There was no viable logical reason for this and the warrenty had expired .As mentioned we have no children and are careful with our appliances. In fact the rest of our kitchen appliances are GE and many years old. This totally caught us off guard in many way$. We purchased a second one to get us through the holidays. Praying this one will last alot longer.

Closer Quality Control/ Final Inspection needed

Product performs as expected with the exception that the wiring indicating which burner is on and hot has been mis-wired. Example: Large Center burner is on but indicator reflects that the right burner is on and hot. As a result of being mis-wired when the Right burner is on the Large Center indicator reflects that its on and hot. This issue, of course, can only be identified once the unit is fully installed and operating. Kind of a letdown in quality control and/or final inspection before being boxed for sale and final installation.

Versatile, well-priced, and a big improvement

Purchased this as a replacement for a 16 year old similar model and I am very happy with what is a substantially improved product. The "quick heat" coil is remarkably fast, and even the other burners seem to heat faster and maintain cooking temperatures better than our old cook top, even when using a heavy wok, which I do very often. Thought I would never get used to cooking with electric (our condo does not have gas) but your cook tops have changed my mind. Very responsive, and - - a big plus over gas ranges - - easy to clean.
